These links will show the BCA official rules for 8-ball and 9-ball.
As you read these rules you will see differences in some of the rules. 
These differences are known as "House Rules" and supercede the official rules. 
House Rules for 8 Ball & 9
Ball can vary depending upon geographical location and billiard rooms.


Many of the Leagues are now using the BCA rules.
Check with your league coordinator to see which House Rules apply, if any. 

8-ball "House Rules" 
---------------------
A pocket scratch with cue ball while shooting at the 8-ball is  lose of game.

BCA rule is ball in hand for on coming player, not lose of game unless 8 ball is also pocketed. 
See Rule 4.19.
Making the 8 ball on the break is a win, if a scratch  occurs it is a lose.
BCA rule is making the 8 ball on the break is not a win or a lose. See rule 4.8
When balls are pocketed illegally the opponents ball stay down while the shooters ball are re-spotted.
BCA rule is all balls pocketed during an illegal shot remain pocketed. See Rule 4.16
Balls jumped off the table are re-spotted.
BCA rule is jumped balls are not re-spotted. See Rule 4.17

9-ball "House Rules" 
No push out allowed after break.
BCA rule allows a push out after break. See Rule  5.6

9-ball must be called at all times  during the game.
BCA rule is no shot needs to be called at any time. See Rule 5.1
